The Question of Islam?

SEE HERE How is the generally Christian West to see Islam? I think it is a highly relevant question with no easy answer. One troubling aspect is that Islam teaches that one should mislead and lie to your neighbors about Islam if it is seen as necessary when you are in the minority. It goes back to the difference between Mecca and Medina. Having just returned from the Chesterton Conference about a week ago when Chesterton's poem "Lepanto" was described, the issue of the West's response to Islam still presents itself to my mind. Islam has always been spread by conquest as a matter of policy. That is troubling combined with their general intolerance of the West. The book "Who Speaks for Islam?" received mixed reviews on Amazon HERE partly because the raw data isn't given and the book reads to some reviewers as a propaganda piece. So what is the truth? and moreover, what ought to be the posture of the West?
