SEE HERE Does anyone out there know what this is about? I previously posted on this weirdness over a year ago HERE and I still have no idea what is going on. Why are the Chinese spending literally billions of dollars to build empty cities? One suggestion was that it was as a store of value and maybe that makes sense except what's the recovery plan. Buildings degrade and are not permanent especially unoccupied buildings. These are complete little cities with roads, residences, business complexes and the whole nine yards. Extraordinarily odd! Here's a WIKI page on it. SKEPTICBLOG says it is not so strange and offers somewhat naive explanations. We are, after all, talking about hundreds of billions of dollars of investment. Perhaps we need someone from the Chinese bureaucracy to illuminate us.

ReplyDeleteLooks like Mr. Blue's idea for a movie about the end of the world, where the entire population is herded into cities. Maybe Myles Connolly was a prophet.
Maybe ... it's very strange and I've not heard a very sensible explanation yet. These things cost billions and don't make any obvious sense unless China is planning some sort of citizen relocation program. I don't get it.
