Justice? Is that what you expect from the state? Do you expect wisdom or services? Perhaps health care? You are naive. The state is about power and fear. Pontius Pilate was the Roman official on the scene in Judea. He found the carpenter's son Jesus innocent of the charges against him, but was afraid of being denounced to Caesar. "You are no friend of Caesar," cried the mob. And so he gave him over to be crucified after first having him scourged severely, so severely that he could not carry his cross reliably and an innocent passerby had to be pressed into service.
Jesus was once addressed, "Good Master ..." and responded, "Why do you call me good? Only God is good." When we expect wisdom, justice, or service from our fellow man we should remember this. Only men who serve a higher master than the state, one who is truly benevolent, can be expected to show justice, wisdom, compassion and service. Too many become instead fearful servants of the state like Pontius Pilate. "What is truth?" asked Pilate. What indeed, when your world is ruled by the dynamics of the inner ring and fear of losing power and privilege.
