Drilling 5000 feet down with no-one in charge and a host of unknowns

SEE HERE Once you've read this you'll see that everyone's to blame for the Deepwater Horizon disaster. When you've really never done something like this before a host of things can go wrong and no one knows exactly what to do or who should do it. If you go ahead it ends up being a "play by ear" fiasco with lots of catastrophe potential. So that's what they got. Now the finger pointing goes round and round and the bottom line is there is plenty of confusion to go around smearing every organization and government agency involved with the broad brush of ignorance. This kind of thing ought not really be a surprise when you're doing something so unusual. It's hard to know how to react. Government has produced much of this problem but they want none of the responsibility. Pretty much politics as usual. If things go well take the credit. If things go poorly, find someone to blame.
