SEE HERE I've about had it with the abortion debate. What part of killing an innocent human child whose only offense is that he or she is small and defenseless makes it not murder? The devaluation of human life has come with the notion that our personal pleasure somehow trumps other people's humanity. Now we have a Republican candidate who is not particularly clever with words who used the phrase "legitimate rape" to point out that rape rarely ends up in pregnancy. It was an unfortunate choice of words. He obviously meant something like "real rape" as opposed to claims sometimes made after the fact in the case of consensual sex of rape. It has all the usual culprits up in arms.
The point of course is while an actual rape is an assault of a most heinous and violating nature, if a child is conceived as a result, the child is innocent. It is a harsh sentence to ask a woman to carry the child of a rapist, but it is worse to be party to a murder. Of course in our insensitive and highly sexed age it seems that any expedient to avoid birth is permitted. Does it occur to anyone that this is a fundamental rejection of life itself? Why should your life be valued if you value the life of others so lightly?
Our president thinks so little of human life that he is on record saying it is all right to kill a child if it survives an abortion attempt. In my mind that make Barack Obama a monster. One has to wonder if he would like it if his mother had chosen the abortion option for him, but that would require reflection and the acknowledgement that there are somethings more important than yourself.
