Truth Trumps Lying and Our Society Is Very Short of Truth

SEE HERE Telling the truth is a problem in politics today. That is probably because there are so many liars in the business and so many spin-doctors and phonies. It means that people who are up front and honest are at something of a disadvantage. They're always under pressure to back down and betray their principles. There's a "Catch-22" involved to. When the principle is unpopular even though true, and you're forced to back down, then the usual suspects attack you again for being a hypocrite and unprincipled, despite the fact that they are the unprincipled ones who are holding the bad position and you just agreed with them to achieve what? Peace? Being "Nice"?

That's the position that Akin found himself in when he disputed the morality of killing an unborn child if it was the product of a rape. Rape is a nasty crime, probably under-reported. Abortion is a minefield of liberal and feminist creation that together with Contraception is likely much of the reason for the moral collapse of our society. He never should have paired the word "legitimate" with "rape." There is no "legitimate rape." Perhaps "real" would have been better, but leaving "rape" simply unmodified is enough. There is also no "legitimate abortion." Murder is more evil than rape. Murder leaves the victim dead. This is a dishonest debate fueled by the immorality of a sick society. I don't know anything about Akin. I don't know if he can survive this politically. But I'd rather see him fight than quit. MORE It seems to me that a failure of principle is in play here. Instead of correcting the bad wording and putting out a clear and principled statement, Akin's own party is throwing him under the bus. This is one of the things I find disreputable about both parties but especially the Republicans. Neither party can seem to stand on principle and both parties throw people under the bus, but the Republicans have bizarre habit of throwing people under the Democrat's bus when they should be demolishing the Democrats for their immoral principles and facile lies.
