Arizona at Pearl Harbor: December 7, 1941
I was a fetus at Pearl Harbor on the day of the Japanese attack. My father was ordnance officer on U.S.S. Detroit and on-board ship that day. My mother watched the attacking aircraft with me a little one inside. After the attack she was evacuated with the other women and children to the mainland under the protective escort of Detroit and her destroyers. I was born some six months later on June 4th 1942, the day of the Battle of Midway, and I always joke that the Japanese carriers sunk that day were in retaliation for them trying to kill me at Pearl. It is a day to remember, for the price of freedom is eternal vigilance and freedom isn't free.
