WAR DECLARED!
I always joke that I'm the youngest member of the Pearl Harbor survivors' association. I was a infant in utero at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. My father was on the U.S.S. Detroit.
It is important to remember that we are always vulnerable to surprise attack whether it be the attack at Pearl Harbor 68 years ago or the attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 a scant 8 years ago. Surprise is always the best strategy when the weak attack the strong. Treachery is difficult to defend against. George Washington long ago reminded us that "In time of peace prepare for war." Sad though it may be, conflict is the great constant in the history of man. It will not go away because we wish it so, for the heart of man has not changed, nor does it appear to be on the brink of changing. If anything, the world is a more dangerous place today as the technology grows and makes possible more devastation. We live in a world where nuclear technology can be bought for a price. Terrorist nations will soon have nuclear weapons and the capacity to deliver them anywhere in the world. We need to remember. We need to prepare.
