"People in their right minds never take pride in their talents."

"People in their right minds never take pride in their talents." is from To Kill a Mockingbird. My sister used the quote in her blog today and it put me in mind of another quote from 1 Corinthians 4:7 the last part, here given from the Amplified bible, "What have you that was not given to you? If then you received it [from someone], why do you boast as if you had not received [but had gained it by your own efforts]?"

All of our talents are given to us and it is our obligation to develop and use them effectively not in our own service but in the service of Him who gave them to us. We are servants of the eternal and all the evils of the world arise from mistaking ourselves for the world's masters. It is not so. We are the gardeners not the Landlord. An account will be demanded from us. This will likely come as some surprise to those who have spent their years imagining that they are themselves the Lords of the Universe, but so shall it be.
