Riffing off Thomas Sowell's column let's look at the interesting statistic that:"Federal civil servants earned average pay and benefits of $123,049 in 2009 while private workers made $61,051 in total compensation. ... The Federal compensation advantage has grown from $30,415 in 2000 to $61,998 last year."
Wow! Grab that government job! Does this mean that government employees work better or harder or on more difficult things than ordinary peons ... ?? No, it's just like all other things government. There are no checks and balances, no market test of efficiency or efficacy or even minimum standards of performance. It shouldn't surprise people too much. Typically government these days functions by contracting the actual work and the government folks are Lords managing their contract serfs and of course the Lords have to be paid more.
Pat Buchanan has a few words about where this is all going and it's not a pretty sight. SEE HERE
