Conservatives Are the Majority

SEE HERE There is something decidedly odd about the perspective most Americans are presented with by the media and academia. You would think that conservatives were some sort of exotic, rare, and slightly disreputable creatures. But the fact of the matter is that it is the folks on the left that are the exotic creatures in the zoo. Conservatives stand for preserving not the status quo, but the proven work of past generations. Change should be motivated by need and by good principles. The left is mostly in rebellion against such thinking. All that is old must be replaced by what is new. C.S. Lewis characterized this form of thought as "chronological snobbery" or the idea that your particular culture of the moment is the best there has ever been and the sooner we get rid of it the better since everything that happens "now" is better then everything that happened "before." This is quite wrong, but it took Owen Barfield to argue the young Lewis out of his own chronological snobbery into a more open and forward looking view not only of the future but the past as well.
