What Part of "Illegal" is it that People Don't Understand?

SEE HERE Now the interesting thing about the illegal immigration nonsense is that if I'm stopped for a traffic violation the policeman always asks for my driver's license. I think they still do that, although it has been quite a number of years since I was stopped and the last time it was to get a closer look at my brand new Mitsubishi Eclipse so that would have been around four years ago. Illegal immigration is about a certain kind of illegality. I don't want to say criminality since it's a civil violation I think. Most illegals have entered the country legally and then overstayed their visas. Then there is the more troubling kind of sneaking into the country which carries with it other dangers, presumably you sneak in because you can't get in legally even on a visa. Maybe you don't want a record of your entry. Maybe you are trying to get a baby born in the U.S. so you can claim you have to stay to take care of your little new citizen. I don't know. But I do think the issue is complicated enough that pretending to reduce it on the one hand to racism and on the other to criminality is probably a case of "a pox on all your houses."

What we need is a sane and reasonable look at the whole problem and a solution, not some papering over of the problem so it can reoccur time and time again. But that kind of deliberation and work seems quite beyond the slogan driven government of our times.
